About the city
Megeve, “The Art of Living at the top”, described as “the 21st arrondissement of Paris” by Jean Cocteau, is a French town located in the department of Haute-Savoie and the Rhone-Alpes region.
City areas
The Rothschild family wanted for a long time to build a French resort to rival that of the prestigious Swiss resort of St. Moritz. The desire was to create a resort bearing the symbol of the art of living in France.
Attractions
Megeve has been popular for its architectural model of success. A long time ski resort of the great aristocracy, the city has managed to elegantly built modern structures while preserving its ancient heritage.
Transportation
Megeve is a wonderful winter destination, as it is considered to be on of the best and most beautiful ski resorts in France. The trip should be quite fun especially by train or car, although in winter the roads can get a little perilous.
Events
It is no surprise that the town of Megeve hosts every year mostly winter related events. From December until March the town is the main stage for such events as Christmas, Snow-Polo Meeting and the Coq d’Or, a ski challenge which gathers many champion skiers between the ages of 10 and 13.
Restaurnats & Nightlife
The town is a hotbed of clubs and bars for after-ski fun. Megeve is also a great place to dine out. You’ll find many good restaurants around town, presenting you with the fine French style of cooking, giving you a taste a the French art of living in grandeur.
History & Civilization
Megeve is a famous ski resort in the Alps, dating back to 1913. It started its development in the 1920s when Baronne Noemie de Rothschild opened its first major hotel in 1921, after becoming disenchanted with St. Moritz as a skiing resort.
Marvels of nature
The splendid surroundings of Megeve are something everyone should see at least once in their lifetime. The wonderful scenery which spans across a few km of pathways, makes for a very pleasant stroll in the heart of one of France’s most beautiful regions.
