History & Civilization
Megeve is a famous ski resort in the Alps, dating back to 1913. It started its development in the 1920s when Baronne Noemie de Rothschild opened its first major hotel in 1921, after becoming disenchanted with St. Moritz as a skiing resort.

Located in the Sallanches canton in the Haute-Savoie department, its important touristic development dates back to 1910, when the Rothschild family decided to make here a winter resort.

By the 1950s Megeve was one of the most popular ski resorts in Europe, and attracted many celebrities. As well as Megeve itself, the skiing area also includes the Combloux, Cote 2000, and Les Contamines resorts. The resort has a skiable area of 8 km², and an uppermost point at 2350 m. The first three World Junior Figure Skating Championships were held here in 1976, 1977 and 1978.
